Things to do, Attractions - New Quay, Cardigan Bay, including Dolphin Spotting

Things to do and Attractions, Dolphin spotting and Whats on in the New Quay and West Wales area. There is always lots to do and many attractions to enjoy in Cardigan Bay in this beautiful part of West Wales. Walk the coast path and take in the beauty and stunning scenery of Cardigan Bay, you may even spot dolphins from the path. West Wales is renowned for its wildlife and Cardigan Bay is the best place in Europe to spot bottlenose dolphins. Take a dolphin spotting boat trip from nearby New Quay and enjoy dolphin spotting and other attractions such as seals and the numerous seabirds that make their home in this unspoilt part of West Wales. There have also been recent sightings of the Common Dolphin as well as the Bottlenose Dolphin in New Quay. The dolphin spotting boat trips are now running daily up to the end of October, there is currently a great sightings rate on the dolphin spotting trips from New Quay.

As well as walking the Coastal Path other attractions include several cycle trails, mountain biking and angling. Some of Wales’s finest food with numerous True Taste Award Winners are based in the area and much of this delicious local produce is served in the plentiful fine restaurants and pubs in the locality. We are fortunate to enjoy some wonderful seafood, just ask the dolphins!! Visit one of the lovely hostelries, waiting for you to enjoy their warmth, hospitality and fantastic fresh food .

Culture and the arts also have great significance in the area being home to Wales’s two oldest Universities and the National Library of Wales at Aberystwyth which has regular exhibitions and tours. The ideal place to research your Welsh Ancestry or Family Tree, ring in advance to book an introduction. Free guided tours can be taken of the National Library. Please enquire for details.

Whatever your interests Ceredigion has it all - water-sports, beautiful beaches and coastal villages all with their own character, churches, chapels and monasteries, castles and a rich lead, copper and gold mining heritage. 2014 was the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas who spent an important period of his life in the area. During which time he wrote some of his finest work and based characters on people he met in the area. Much of the film The Edge of Love was filmed in New Quay , starring Mathew Rhys, Ceira Knightly and Sienna Miller.

If you have enjoyed the current S4C and BBC detective series, Hinterland - Y Gwyll, come and enjoy the striking scenery at first hand. The series is filmed exclusively in Ceredigion and really highlights what a beautiful part of the world we have the good fortune to live in. Enjoy the English version of series 3 which is currently on BBC TV

April 2015 saw the opening of Cardigan Castle to the public following an extensive period of renovation work. This will be a must visit place, on your list of things to do when you come and stay at Penllwyn Cottages.
